Things are happening with the electric VMoto’s I was talking about the other day, the first promo “flyer” arrived for me, it is yet to be released so why don’t you let me know what you think about it. They are clearly pushing the “green” angle so let me know your thoughts. I will have one of the first dozen or so to turn up in the next few weeks for review.

Ok, I know that concepts are most irritating at the best of times, a manufacturer will release a render, or a sculpture of the coolest looking thing on the face of the planet, everyone says “sweet mother of the apocalypse that is amazing, give me one!” and they bring out another modern/retro/stodgy/pile of the same. This silly concept business has now been extended… Electric Scooter Concepts… from not one but TWO car manufacturers!

BRONZ Federation

September 18th, 2010 admin Posted in Scooter Reviews No Comments »

{rokbox album=|album|}images/news/2010/09/bronz_logo.jpg{/rokbox}

Good news for riders in New Zealand! The Bikers Rights Organisation of New Zealand (BRONZ) has come together from a group of regional bodies into a consolidated national body that will consult with government to promote the positive and safe treatment of bikers. They will also hopefully manage to prevent ridiculous rises in charges to bikers like the recent hikes in ACC Levies.

The fact is that recent events in that particular area will, without a doubt reduce the amount of riders on our roads, that is the exact opposite to what the government should be promoting if they want to reduce emissions, reduce congestion, and generally improve quality of life for everyone who uses our roads, less people in cars means less traffic, crazy, knee jerk price hikes are literally pricing people out of bikes and scooters. Not to mention some decidedly questionable “safety” devices being installed on our Highways.

Either way I only spoke to the new president on the phone for a few minutes the other day but he instills some faith that this revitalized BRONZ will make some positive changes for bikers. Good luck.

VMoto 125cc Retro

September 14th, 2010 admin Posted in Scooter Reviews No Comments »

{rokbox}images/news/2010/09/vmoto_retro_125.jpg{/rokbox}

I mentioned the other day that VMoto were building on the success of their retro styled 50cc machine (the Milan) with a 125cc water cooled, injected, retro style scooter. The name hasn’t quite got as far as my ears yet but you will know when I do and it will likely be something beginning with an “M” if the current naming conventions are followed. What I HAVE managed to source is a photo of a bunch of them parked in the warehouse awaiting delivery (pic above) they look pretty cool and I look forward to trying one out hopefully next month… I will report back as to my impressions.

Long Term Test: 2007 Suzuki Address 125

Update now online 2 odd years in! (click the link to the right)

2nd Jan 2008

The New Year has dawned, to tell you the truth I am not really very sure what happened to 2007 it appears to have buzzed by at a serious velocity! Anyway with the closing of ’07 and fuel price and traffic congestion at an all time high I decided it was time to get back onto a scooter, for fun and to generally ease commuting hassle and cost.

VMoto Update

July 25th, 2010 admin Posted in Scooter Reviews No Comments »

{rokbox album=|album|}images/news/2010/07/city_scart.jpg{/rokbox}

Now I know I had a bit of a story about VMoto the other day but I figured as I had a great chat to the boys a few days ago I should let you all know what else is going on. First of all there is a new retro machine coming into the lineup it will be essentially a newer, bigger (125cc) version of the Milan. You may notice some similarity to a scooter originally built in Italy but this is a tried and true game plan when it comes to scooters and if it is anywhere near as good as the hype it is going to be a gem.

VMoto Batteries in Vectrix

July 23rd, 2010 admin Posted in Scooter Reviews No Comments »

{rokbox album=|album|}images/news/2010/07/vmoto_electric1.jpg{/rokbox}

Australian scooter company to supply ex-German batteries to power Vectrix scooters… true story as far as I can tell… All of our readers in Australasia and a fair few in Europe and Asia will know about Vmoto, they have been around for a fair while now… slowly growing into a proper grown up scooter company, building massive factories (3 more in the planning) in China and supplying many hundreds of thousands of scooter engines around the globe. Well the latest step in the VMoto quest to take over the world is to secure some future propulsion and that means ELECTRIC. To this end they have acquired the rest (the first 60 odd percent was bought a while back) of German electric scooter company “E-Max” mainly for that companies battery technology, and initially as a simply base for a range of VMoto Electric scooters.

Put up or Shut Up

{rokbox album=|album|}images/stories/the_rant/tsr_piston_black_web.jpg{/rokbox}

Normally I only publish Mad Bike Boys “Rants” over on www.themotorcyclereview.com but this one was a bit too good not to share with you all. Enjoy:

I have hate in my heart for a lot of things, and for a fair number of people.  Some people are just assholes.  I’m an asshole, I can speak with a degree of knowledge on the subject; but there are people raise the bar beyond rational expectation.

I surround myself with do-ers.  These are the people who get shit done, they start a project and they keep working on it until it’s done.  I like do-er’s.  But I hate the assholes that are Gunna’s.  If you’re a doer, you’d know the Gunna’s – they’re the fucktards that explain to you why you’re wrong, and why their xyz is gunna be so much better than yours.  Gunna do this.  Gunna do that.  Gunna’s are going to be in the queue to be up against the wall when my revolution comes.  They take momentum and throw stones at it until it stops.  They’re the people that stop so much really cool shit from happening.  Gunna’s should be called Never Gunna’s; because they never do.

I’ve got a good mate – he’s a good guy.  A regular nice guy, does the right thing, and he has a project car that’s sat in his garage for many years.  A bunch of Gunna’s have taken the wind out his sails, the momentum out of his project, and the confidence to make decisions.  Building a car or a bike, especially something rare or bespoke – is an iterative process that is fraught with pitfalls and wrong turns.  The Gunna’s sit in the background, hurling stones from their throne of all encompassing knowledge; safe from anything because they never risk anything other than throwaway opinion.
