Armadillo Hoodie

This hoodie is near perfection for your average urban scooter rider. Armadillo has done what few other manufacturers have…Made a collection of jackets that you’d actually wear while not on the scooter.

The Armadillo ‘Hoodie’ is like a family car with a 1000hp engine hidden under the hood.  To look at the jacket you’d never guess it had so many features. Probably the most important of these secret features is the removable d3o impact protection in the elbow and shoulder. The protection is low profile, and sits inside mesh pockets

VMoto Emax first ride

November 12th, 2010 admin Posted in Scooter Reviews No Comments »

{rokbox}images/news/2010/09/emaxice.jpg{/rokbox}

Well, first ride for us anyway… I mentioned HERE that I was going to take a ride on the new VMoto electric scooter. Well it finally arrived and I went and took a shiny red one for a spin around the block. We will have a demo model for a full test in the next few weeks but I have to say the brief ride impressed me no end.

  • Good Power
  • Looks modern and well built
  • Reasonable price
  • Good Range
  • Smooth power delivery
  • Good braking and handling

All in all looking very positive so if you are too impatient to wait for the full review go see your local VMoto retailer and take one for a ride you won’t be disapointed.

Armadillo City Rider Jacket

October 22nd, 2010 admin Posted in Scooter Reviews No Comments »

{rokbox}images/news/2010/10/armadillo_city_rider.jpg{/rokbox}

I have been eagerly anticipating testing some Armadillo Scooter Wear, I have long been intrigued by its combination of urban style and protective properties… Finally, just the other day a package arrived on the doorstep of TSR HQ containing a City Rider Jacket and the Armadillo Hoodie, as much as I wanted to run away with both of them I decide to delegate some responsibility so Ant will be trying out the Hoodie and I have the City Rider. The timing couldn’t have been better as the weather was complete and utter… well let’s just say it wasn’t much good to keep it G rated. And when a jacket is marketed as Water Proof and Windproof it would be wrong not to abuse it until these claims are proved or disproved. When the forecast says “Weather Bomb” I normally crawl under the covers and set the alarm for a week from now, but for YOU, our faithful reader I waited till the middle of the night (colder that way) and ventured out into the pouring rain for a 40 minute round trip wearing just the City Rider with a grey cotton tee underneath. Yes I wore pants too but that isn’t really relevant to the story?

Piaggio Typhoon: Intermot

October 6th, 2010 admin Posted in Scooter Reviews No Comments »

{rokbox}images/news/2010/10/typhoon_125.jpg{/rokbox}

Piaggio have shown their updated Typhoon in both a 50cc and a 125cc capacity at Intermot, there is a big long press release which I have attached on page two for those of you that want the full detail. However the main updates seem to be in the styling with a definite move toward a more “urban” scoot like we have seen with the likes of the BW.

{rokbox}images/news/2010/10/typhoon_125_outside.jpg{/rokbox}

Essentially just more aggressive styling with modern front light, massive “shark gill” vents in the front, both of which look awesome… and some ridiculously ugly decals. Otherwise specs don’t seem to offer anything groundbreaking.. pretty much standard fare for the category, in saying that it does look good… well… except the yellow.

Suzuki e-Let’s

October 3rd, 2010 admin Posted in Scooter Reviews No Comments »

{rokbox}images/news/2010/09/elets.jpg{/rokbox}

I don’t know if this even really qualifies as news… I mean really, Suzuki have jumped on the bandwagon, announcing an electric 50cc equivalent scooter.. I know it is the future and whatnot and I love seeing small companies bringing out innovative new alternative fuel scooters, but I expect someone the size of Suzuki, or any of the other majors out there to do a bit better. Even car manufacturers Mini and SMART are jumping on the bandwagon but at least they are supplying something a bit fresh…

{rokbox}images/news/2010/09/elets-sketch.jpg{/rokbox}

I don’t want to be too harsh here, they have worked with Sanyo to design a more efficient electrical and charging system, a “high efficiency control circuit” (whatever that is), plug and play along with regenerative braking etc. Unfortunately the range (30ish kms) and design is less than inspiring although I must say I am a huge fan of retaining the weight (74kg) of it’s petrol powered predecessor the Lets’4.

Shhh! this is California!

October 1st, 2010 admin Posted in Scooter Reviews No Comments »

{rokbox}images/news/2010/09/harley_davidson_vrod_20_med.jpg{/rokbox}

It is good to see that other places have as ridiculous legislation as we do, but as is often the case California has taken it one step further, The Governator has just signed SB 435, the “Anti-Tampering Act” so called because it is meant to stop the modifying of factory fitted exhausts, thereby retaining the emissions gear (so it is more hippy crap!? Mad Bike Boy). The upshot is however that you can be fined for excessively loud exhausts, now there is actually already a mandated level for exhaust noise, both factory and aftermarket are technically not meant to exceed 80 decibels however motorcycles (scooters, presumably they will get hit too?) have never really been targeted for this sort of infringement.

{rokbox}images/news/2010/09/emaxice.jpg{/rokbox}

Things are happening with the electric VMoto’s I was talking about the other day, the first promo “flyer” arrived for me, it is yet to be released so why don’t you let me know what you think about it. They are clearly pushing the “green” angle so let me know your thoughts. I will have one of the first dozen or so to turn up in the next few weeks for review.
